Op-ed: Enough is Enough! Time to start holding police accountable for policies and actions in the wake of Tyre Nichols death.📝📰✊🏿✊🏿

Ayyyeee… What’s Goodie Everyone. So I decided to write this piece to express my feelings about the death of Tyre Nichols by the hands of the Memphis Police Department.

On January 7, 2023 at 8:00pm Tyre Nichols was stopped by five Memphis Police officers during a traffic stop. The officers pulled him out from his car, tased him and used pepper spray on him. When Nichols tried to run away, they caught up with him they punched and kicked him in the back of his head and used the baton to strike him in the back and restrained him. Nichols was hospitalized in critical condition and died three days later on January 10, 2023. An autopsy commissioned by Nichols family concluded internal bleeding caused by a severe beating.

The five officers who committed the crime names are Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. , and Justin Martin were fired January 20, 2023 and charged with murder on January 26, 2023. Video footage of the incident was released to the public on January 26,2023 as well, the footage is very graphic in nature.

The five officers responsible for the death of Tyre Nichols. Names are listed above.

I wanted to write this op-ed because simply, I am tired, tired of the politicians that fund systematic racism against black Americans, the overlooking and overstepping towards Black Americans and the police brutality and systematic genocide of black Americans, I am tired and enough is enough. I feel as though it’s time to put our foot down and for me, I simply am putting my foot down.

I don’t vote for any of these politicians at all. As far as I am concerned, I have no love for the law enforcement and I use for my own interest. I don’t back the boys in blue and I don’t mess with republicans or Democrats for they are one in the same. The murder of Tyre Nichols who is a Gemini, an skateboarder and an artist didn’t deserve to die and was just trying to go home. These police officers who were black decided to commit a murder and applauded themselves for doing so not realizing that they were on camera. What’s even more brutal is that there are policies and rules and even funding that supports this type of behavior and even more sad is that these officers were black.

What is to say is that no matter the race, white supremacy supports this kind of genocide which has been the staple of law enforcement and criminal justice institutions since it’s beginning. Before Tyre Nichols, black Americans have been the target of genocide by law enforcement and criminal justice institutions for over a hundred years. This latest tragedy is heartbreaking because Nichols and many others before him did NOT deserve to die by the hands of law enforcement.

What enrages me and makes me upset to this very day is that politicians would go on social media or Infront of the cameras and offer their “condolences” and other “kind” words but offer no solutions or accountability nor Responsibility for the actions of such. They simply move on like nothing happened and throw their funding and money behind these programs and institutions. This is what it is, and I believe that everyone had a part to play and is soley responsible for the death of Tyre Nichols and many more before him. There needs to be a change. No more kind words or condolences when you support and back the boys in blue and don’t offer no change or accountability or responsibility.

Before I end this, I want to talk about Tyre Nichols and who he was.
