Ayyyeee… What’s Goodie Everyone. So I got some tea and it involves the Washington’s NFL team and the retirement of a logo.
The NFL franchise announced that it will retire the RedSkins name and introduce a new one soon.
The Announcement comes just days after a statement was released July 3 saying it would be undertaking a “thorough review” of the team’s name, a process the team said in Monday’s announcement has ‘begun in earnest.’ In an interview July 4, Coach Ron Rivera who is working with owner Daniel Snyder to choose a name said he hoped the new name would be in place by the start of the 2020 NFL season. Others have said it will be revealed as soon as within two weeks.
Sunday, two people with knowledge of the team’s plans said that the preferred replacement name has been held up by trademark issues, which is why the team couldn’t announce the new name Monday.
The decision to change 87 year old team name comes at mounting pressure on the franchise from corporate sponsors and the nationwide discussion of race.
Fed-Ex is one of the sponsors for the team wrote issued a statement asking the team the change its name, also stating that it will release the team to holding rights at its stadium if the team didn’t change its name which stands at 45 million dollars. Other companies who sponsor the team also made similar demands.
Understand that the teams name will not change immediately. These things usually go through a lengthy process. On the Franchise website which is named “Redskins.com” refers to the franchise as Washington RedSkins.
