The Coronavirus. What is it really? and how to be careful and avoid it.

Ayyyeee… What’s Goodie everyone. So this new virus called Coronavirus. (Covid-19) It’s been called a pandemic by the World Health Organization and it’s causes shut downs around the world including the United States and stoked fears. What is it and is it much a do about nothing or shall this be taken serious? What precautions shall be in place to protect and how much of an impact does it really have and is the media blowing this situation out of portion???

The Coronavirus, also with the abbreviation of COVID-2019 are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans; According to The World Health Organization.

Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans. Several known coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans.
Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

Now where did this virus come from. It’s been reported that the virus formed and developed in China. The first cases of the virus were reported in China.

Because of travel and the influx of people in different areas of the world, contact is usually how germs and viruses spread.

The virus has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, and several countries that include Italy, Canada and United States have declared a State of Emergencies and caused national shutdowns. Here in New York I feel the impacts of the virus as bans have been put in place shutting down 30% of business and public gatherings with Wall Street also feeling the impact. Superstores in New York and all over the nation are being cleaned out of supplies, the fear is absolutely high. But is it something we should take serious? Yes! I believe this virus shouldn’t be taken lightly. This was a virus that out Healthcare community was not prepared for. But this should be the time where we use critical thinking.

Start testing. Test anyone who feels that thinks they may have been exposed.

Once found positive, use the information to study the make up of the virus.

Pay attention to the symptoms of the virus and how each person reacts to the virus.

Once learning the make up of the virus, study it’s orgin and then find solutions to treatment and cures.

Hopefully while this virus is being studied by the scientific and healthcare communities as everyone else… What can we do to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus?

Simple.

Standard Precautions.

Standard Precautions is a term used in the healthcare community which means normal infection control. Keeping yourself and your surroundings sanitized. Keep dirty and soiled belongings away from yourself when handling, use gloves when handling dirty and soiled belongings, properly dispose of the dirty and soiled belongings and always WASH YOUR HANDS with SOAP and WATER or use hand sanitizer.

ALSO: Covering your mouth with your arm when you cough or sneeze, wearing personal protection gear such as a mask or gown in close quarters of someone who could be affected. Having a healthy diet could also protect you against the virus.

No fear should be instilled in the population at large. Life goes on and the numbers aren’t high like other things that can and have usually kill people. There are things that pose a much bigger threat. But heed to these steps of keeping yourself healthy. You cannot stop your daily lifes movement because of the virus. By the way… Stop watching the mainstream media. The mainstream media is fear mongering and making this situation out to be some scary and overdramatic death touch which it’s not. If you follow the standard precautions in your everyday life then of course you will be absolutely fine.
